History and Mission: The Armorettes is a legendary camp drag organization, established in 1979, during the darkest era for gay men, with the emergence of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As the epidemic became rampant across the gay community, many individuals found themselves without jobs, housing, or the ability to cover health care costs. The original six decided enough was enough. The Armorettes was born with a simple mission, to fundraise money to support the Atlanta community during its grapple with HIV/AIDS and that mission continues to be important today. To date, the Armorettes have raised over 2.3 million dollars benefiting various charities within the Atlanta community to support those suffering from and living with HIV/AIDS.
